Validate Planning Model

Validate a model before adding it to a pit

Validate Planning Model

To access this task:

  • Activate the Setup ribbon and select Model | Validate

Studio OP uses mine planning block models to evaluate the mining block reserves and assign the blocks with attributes such as tonnes and grades. This enables the blocks to be scheduled. Planning models are added to a Studio OP project and assigned to pits using the Define Planning Model task.

When a model has been added to Studio OP before assigning it to a pit it should be validated. The validation provide a brief summary of the fields in the files and their range of values. The validation checks that the model has no problematic absent or negative values.

The Fix button can be used to correct any absent or negative values to the "Absent Val" and "Negative Val" values respectively.

Typically it is advisable to set any absent grade values to their default value which is normally zero.

Using the Validate Planning Model task

Your planning model will have already been defined using the Define Planning Model task. Once defined:

  1. Select the appropriate planning model from the drop-down list provided at the top of the screen
  2. In the table immediately below, check each row and determine:

    • if the number of values detected to be missing (ABSENT) or negative(NEGATIVE), both of which would produce undesired results, are as expected. If not, you can choose what happens to absent and negative values (or other values that should be considered negative or absent) using the To Absent Val, From Asbent Val and Negative Val fields (see below).
    • if the number of values reporting Zero (0) is what you expect - for grade fields this may be completely normal (gold may not be prevalent throughout the entire model).
    • if you want to set a particular value in your input model file to absent (-). If so pick the value that represents absence here (for example, you may want to convert all -99 values of a particular to absent, so would add '-99' in the To Absent Val field.
    • if you want to set all absent values in the incoming file to a particular non-absent value, e.g. "999999", you could enter "999999" into the From Absent Val field. This will convert all absent incoming numeric values to "999999" during import.
    • if you want to convert all negative values (regardless of what they are) to a particular value, .e.g. "-" for absent, you can enter "-" into the Negative Val field. This will cause all negative values to be set to "-" during import.
    • Check the Summary Statistics and make sure the range and mean of the model attributes looks okay; excessively large or small ranges may indicate a sampling problem or 'noisy' data.
